Royal Meteorological Society Journal Awards
The Royal Meteorological Society has recently presented its 2014 awards at its Annual General Meeting. These are given on an annual basis by the society to recognise authors' exceptional dedication and contribution to the society's journals.
The Buchan Prize - awarded annually in memory of Alexander Buchan, Scotland’s foremost meteorologist. The prize is awarded to an author whose articles contain the most important contributions to meteorology and have been published within the society journals. This year the prize went to Professor John Thuburn.
The LF Richardson Prize is awarded annually for a commendable paper published in a Society journal written by a member of the Society who is in their early career in meteorology. In 2013 Dr Cathryn Birch was awarded this.
The Gordon Manley Weather Prize is awarded for an outstanding contribution to Weather in the preceding 5 years.
The Atmospheric Science Letters Editor’s Award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the work of the Atmospheric Science Letters journal. As the Society’s first fully online journal, ASL has been a pioneering venture for the Society.
The Quarterly Journal Editor’s Award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the work of the Quarterly Journal.
