Managing Editor Bruce Rosenstein Honored by Peers

Leader to Leader Managing Editor

Congratulations to Bruce Rosenstein, Managing Editor of Leader to Leader, who was recently named the winner of the 2016 Roger Summit Award by the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP).

Past Presidents of the AIIP independently fund the Roger Summit Award Lecture for the purpose of sponsoring an industry leader to attend and speak at the annual AIIP Conference. The intent of the award is to attract an individual who will inspire and challenge AIIP members, contributing to the continuing education and development of the attendees. The person selected each year is an innovative thinker or is able to present ideas in a manner that stretches the minds and imaginations of attendees. Roger Summit, founder of Dialog (now ProQuest Dialog), is considered one of the fathers of online information.

Bruce is currently the Managing Editor of Leader to Leader, an award-winning quarterly report on management, leadership and strategy written by today's top leaders, that is sponsored by the prestigious Frances Hesselbein Institute. Bruce is also the author of Create Your Future the Peter Drucker Way (McGraw-Hill and Brilliance Audio, 2013) and Living in More Than One World: How Peter Drucker's Wisdom Can Inspire and Transform Your Life (Berrett-Koehler, 2009).

Bruce has studied Peter Drucker's work for nearly 30 years, writing extensively for more than a decade about the man some call the “Father of Modern Management,” as well as for USA TODAY and elsewhere, before the publication of his first book. He conducted one of the last interviews with Drucker seven months before his death in 2005.

Besides Leader to Leader and USA TODAY, he has written for such publications as American Executive, Leadership Excellence, GAMA International, Information Outlook, Library Journal and ONLINE.

He is an adjunct professor at The Catholic University of America’s Department of Library and Information Science, and was a researcher and writer at USA TODAY for 21 years.

Leader to Leader Honored for Publishing Excellence

Award-Winning Issue Online

Editor-in-Chief Frances Hesselbein, Managing Editor Bruce Rosenstein and Leader to Leader were once again recognized by industry peers with an APEX 2016 Award of Excellence in the print category of Magazines, Journals & Tabloids - Writing

APEX Award 2016The winning issue was our Fall 2015 volume of Leader to Leader. The writing in this issue particularly exemplifies one of the publication’s signature strengths: providing our readership of leaders with strong, practical and purposeful information that they can apply in their work and life. Examples include Marshall Goldsmith’s “A Simple Question That Makes a Big Difference,” with insights on how to approach conflicts from 35 years as one of the world’s top executive coaches; Herminia Ibarra’s “The Outsight Principle: Becoming a Better Leader From the Outside In,” in which the INSEAD leadership professor finds that gaining authenticity requires doing “new and different things and interacting with new and different people;” and David Marquet’s “Quit the Masquerade and Have Meetings That Matter,” about creating a culture of empowerment, drawing on his research and on his previous career as the commander of the nuclear-powered fast attack submarine USS Santa Fe.

The APEX Awards for Publication Excellence is an annual competition for publishers, editors, writers and designers who create print, Web, electronic and social media. Communications Concepts, Inc. sponsors the APEX Awards, and advises professionals who write, edit and manage business communications, on best strategies and practices. Concepts publishes business communication reports, including Writer's Web Watch, an e-report for professional communicators, and special reports on topics such as corporate writing and Web publishing.

In the Twenty-eighth Annual APEX Awards, over 1,600 entries were evaluated and awards were given in 100 individual areas of excellence, within 11 main categories including: newsletters; magazines, journals and tabloids; annual reports; print media; electronic media; social media; websites; campaigns, programs and plans; writing; design and illustration; and one-of-a-kind publications.

According to the APEX 2016 judges, “The awards were based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success of the entry in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence.”

Congratulations to our managing editor Bruce Rosenstein for this recognition of Publishing Excellence in the category of Writing, Magazines, Journals & Tabloids.
