We continue our exciting new feature in Clinical Cytometry—the capacity to access online links to movies and animations associated with articles on Wiley Online Library!

In “The Hematopoietic Stem Cell Niche- Home for Friend and Foe?”, Daniela S. Krause, David T. Scadden and Frederic I. Preffer review a current perspective on both the normal and abnormal hematopoietic stem cell niche. The article is supported by two exciting supplementary animations: the first of which demonstrates the release of hematopoietic stem cells from their normal niche, initiated by the release of CXCL12 and the second the stem cell factor induced ‘hijacking’ of the niche by leukemic elements, leading to uncontrolled malignant proliferation. Both these animations serve to more fully illustrate the dynamic processes that are considered to occur in both health and diseased states. (Animation art by Mitchell Preffer.)

Note: The animations may take a minute or more to load. We appreciate your patience.
