New Virtual Issue: Total Joint Arthroplasty Virtual Issue

Total joint replacement is a highly successful, cost-effective surgical procedure that reduces pain and improves function for patients with end-stage arthritis. Currently, these operations are being extended to younger, more physically active patients with increased functional demands. Furthermore, as patients are living longer, the durability of joint replacement must be considered.

This special issue of the Journal of Orthopaedic Research compiles the best recently published manuscripts in the fields of biomechanics, biomaterials, biology and clinical science relevant to joint replacement. These manuscripts underline the fact that the technology of joint replacement is undergoing constant change (some positive and some negative). Critical analysis of these preclinical and clinical innovations will hopefully improve the longevity of this highly successful surgical procedure.
