Mental Health Weekly Honored for Publication Excellence
Mental Health Weekly has been honored by industry peers with an Award for Publication Excellence at the 2016 APEX Awards.
The winning issue was our Annual Innovation Issue, Volume 25, Issue 41, published October 26, 2015. The goal this annual issue to inform the mental health community about new ideas and developments in the field. The topics on innovation include a unique funding model that creates incentives for providers who work with seriously mentally ill patients; a program that reduces the duration between a young person's first episode of psychosis and his/her full engagement with mental health services; and a recovery call center staffed by peers. Other stories included a hospital mentorship program that trains youth for mental health careers; and a mobile app company that helps patients recover from eating disorders
The APEX Awards for Publication Excellence is an annual competition for publishers, editors, writers and designers who create print, Web, electronic and social media. Communications Concepts, Inc. sponsors the APEX Awards, and advises professionals who write, edit and manage business communications, on best strategies and practices. Concepts publishes business communication reports, including Writer's Web Watch, an e-report for professional communicators, and special reports on topics such as corporate writing and Web publishing.
In the Twenty-eighth Annual APEX Awards, over 1,600 entries were evaluated and awards were given in 100 individual areas of excellence, within 11 main categories including: newsletters; magazines, journals and tabloids; annual reports; print media; electronic media; social media; websites; campaigns, programs and plans; writing; design and illustration; and one-of-a-kind publications.
According to the APEX 2016 judges, “The awards were based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success of the entry in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence.”
Congratulations to our managing editor Valerie A. Canady, contributing editor Gary Enos and production editor Douglas Devaux for this recognition of Publishing Excellence in the category of Print Newsletters.
