Cover Picture: Self-Assembled-Monolayer Formation of Long Alkanedithiols in Molecular Junctions (Small 1/2008)
The cover picture shows an artist's impression of the large-area molecular junctions based on a self-assembled active monolayer of alkanedithiols that spontaneously forms on a gold electrode. The molecular junction is completed by a spin-coated layer of the highly conducting polymer PEDOT:PSS topped off with gold. The PEDOT:PSS acts as a cushion for the gold atoms to land on, preventing the formation of electrical shorts.
