Small Proves an Immediate Success

The ISI Journal Citation Reports has very recently published its 2005 statistics concerning scientific journals. Although Small will not receive its first Impact Factor until next year, the first official data is now available; the Immediacy Index for a particular year is defined as the ratio of the total number of citations for a particular journal to the number of papers that were published in that journal in that year. We are delighted to report that the first result for Small was outstanding! Small is listed in five subject categories, and our Immediacy Index of 1.255 ranks us already at #2 in the "Nanoscience and Nanotechnology" category, and perhaps even more excitingly, at #12 out of 388 journals listed in all five categories, that is, in the top 3%, and ahead of such notable journals as Chemical Communications (#15), Applied Physics Letters (#46), and Nanotechnology (#72). The fact the we are already being listed among top-rank journals in these areas bears testament to the faith that authors and readers are placing in us after less than two years of publication, and to the quality of the research we are publishing. We thank everybody that has contributed to this marvelous result, and we are confident that we will continue to make a significant and increasing impact in the publication of excellent work at the nano- and microscale in the future.
