2_12i/2012Hydrogen Purification: UV-Rearranged PIM-1 Polymeric Membranes for Advanced Hydrogen Purification and Production (Adv. Energy Mater. 12/2012)

On page 1456, Tai-Shung Chung and co-workers show, for the first time, that ultraviolet (UV)-rearranged polymers of PIM-1 membranes can be used for H2/CO2 separation with far superior separation performance to others in the literature. It is observed that the original contorted PIM-1 could be transformed to a close-to-planar like rearranged structure after UV radiation. Such membranes could have a H2 permeability of 452 barrer and a H2/CO2 selectivity of 7.3, which are far superior to recent state-of-the-art values for the separation of H2/CO2.
