Simultaneous determination of four tanshinones in salvia miltiorrhiza by pressurized liquid extraction and capillary electrochromatographyPressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with advantages of high resolution, short analysis time and low organic solvent consumption were developed by Peng Li, Shao-Ping Li, Feng-Qing Yang and Yi-Tao Wang for the simultaneous determination of four tanshinones (dihydrotanshinone I, cryptotanshinone, tanshinone I and tanshinone IIA) in Salvia miltiorrhiza. High extraction efficiency (>98.5%) was achieved under the optimum PLE conditions. A good separation was obtained by using a Hypersil C18 capillary with a mixture of Tris-HCl (pH 8.5)ûacetonitrile) as background electrolyte (BGE). All calibration curves showed good linearity within test ranges and developed method showed good repeatability for the quantification of four investigated components in S. miltiorrhiza. The validated method was successfully applied to quantify four tanshinones in S. miltiorrhiza, which is helpful to control the quality of S. miltiorrhiza. The repeatability of CEC is less than that of HPLC, which suggests internal standard is indispensable during CEC analysis.
