Meyer* ABSTRACT: The Alzbioindigo Consortium held its 3rd workshop in Jaipur and Udaipur, India, from February 12th to 16th, 2012. The main goal of this project is to intensify collaboration in the field of AD related research between Europe and India. Full meeting report 2nd Alzbioindigo Workshop Report by Bernd Gröttrup, Miriam Böckmann, Christian Stephan, Katrin Marcus, Jens Wiltfang, Helmut E. Meyer*, Rupam Borgohain, Olivier Blin ABSTRACT: The Alzbioindigo Consortia held its 2nd workshop in Bochum, Germany, from July 06th to 07th, 2011. The main goal of this project is to intensify collaboration between fundamental research and clinics in Europe and India. Full meeting report 5th Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference 2011 Report by Suresh Jivan Gadher and Hana Kovarova* ABSTRACT: The excitement and urgencies to address scientific and medical challenges for the benefit of mankind has focussed on Proteomics for answers, may it be stem cell research for regenerative and reparative medicine or biomarker research for prognostic or diagnostic purpose. To this end, a balanced programme (1) incorporating ‘Proteomes, Proteomics and Biological Systems’ was put together to address important aspects of proteomics including cutting edge science, technological advances and bioinformatics applied to biomedical and clinical applications. Additionally, the inclusion of broader portfolio of scientific topics including plant proteomics, microbial proteomics, bioprocessing, novel technologies and translational medicine widened the scope of this meeting. International speakers from many different countries were attracted as well as clinicians, researchers and young students. Such a combination with limitation on numbers created a medium size conference which was much more enjoyable, informative and allowed the possibility of interaction at all levels. More than 120 delegates from all over the world attended the meeting in Prague, Czech Republic. Full meeting report 4th Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference 2010 Report by Suresh Jivan Gadher, Martina Marchetti-Deschmann, Guenter Allmaier, Hana Kovarova* ABSTRACT: Over the last decade, the field of proteomics in Central and Eastern Europe has made tremendous progress and continues to advance rapidly. The popularity of proteomics for the study of biological systems combined with major advances in technologies such as mass spectrometry, experimental and analytical strategies, as well as improved workflows for computational analyses have resulted in better understanding of the structure and function of various proteins and their complex protein-protein interactions. This, together with the confidence to qualitatively and / or quantitatively interrogate proteins of interest, has led to promising developments for the identification of potential new drug targets for the treatment of various diseases as well as improved diagnosis of a plethora of diseases which currently plague mankind. Full meeting report 8th East Midlands Proteomics Workshop 2009 Report by David Boocock, Sabrina Dyall, Susan Liddell, Balwir Matharoo-Ball* ABSTRACT: The eighth meeting of the East Midlands Proteomics Workshop chaired by Dr. Balwir Matharoo-Ball was held in mid-November, in conjunction with the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre (JvGCRC) at the Clifton Campus of Nottingham Trent University. The Workshop was jointly organised by colleagues from three Universities in the region (Nottingham Trent, Nottingham, and Loughborough) with a view to enhance awareness of facilities available in the East Midlands, disseminate specialist knowledge and information relating to proteomics technologies, highlight examples of proteomic research and provide a forum to discuss research interactions and funding opportunities. The free, one-day meeting was attended by over 200 people, and packed in a full program of oral presentations with a poster session and a trade exhibition. Focussing around the themes of biomarker discovery, mass spectrometry for proteomics, a diverse range of research topics were presented including human disease, biomimetic surfaces, microbes and breath analysis of volatile compounds. Full meeting report 3rd Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference 2009 Report by Suresh Jivan Gadher, Rita Hrabakova, László Drahos, Károly Vékey, Guenter Allmaier, Hana Kovarova* ABSTRACT: The genesis of proteomic groups few years ago in Central Europe, today, stand together as a group of successful proteomic societies with expertise and research diversity from all over Central and Eastern Europe and meet regularly to propagate interests as well as share research findings. This is an ever expanding group as neighbouring member states with proteomic interests are regularly welcomed as research and development intensities within individual countries grow, bringing with it a proliferation of scientific publications.
