On p. 3111, Katie Krause and Michael Brett report the creation of a spatially graded nanohelix array, fabricated from transparent titanium dixode (TiO2), with optical properties that vary across its surface. This graded film interacts with circularly polarized light, reflecting back a rainbow of polarized light across the span of the structure. Applications for this structure include photonic devices, position sensors, and scaffolding to support liquid crystals.
