21_22b/2011Imaging: Positive and Negative Lattice Shielding Effects Co-existing in Gd (III) Ion Doped Bifunctional Upconversion Nanoprobes (Adv. Funct. Mater. 22/2011)

On page 4285, Wenbo Bu, Jianlin Shi, and co-workers find that positive and negative lattice shielding effects coexist in lanthanide-ion-doped upconversion fluorescent nanoparticles, and can be used to advance the T1-MR contrast imaging and fluorescent imaging capabilities of watersoluble bifunctional nanocrystals. This results in highly enhanced magnetic and optical imaging modalities in comparison with previous literature reports.
