Chiroptical chromophores....

Self-aggregation and hydrogen bond-directed superstructure formation with a perylene bisimide dye have been investigated for melamines bearing two or four alkyl chains. In addition to examining the influence of the building block substituents, Frank. Würthner and co-workers demonstrate that it is possible to induce chiroptical properties in the perylene bisimide chromophores by self-assembly with chiral melamines (March 18; Adv. Funct. Mater. 2002, 12, 209-218).
