Giordano Giacomello Medal to G. Tarzia
Every three years, the Medicinal Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society awards the Giordano Giacomello Medal to an Italian scientist who stands out for his or her original and relevant research results in the field of medicinal chemistry. This year the prize was awarded to Professor Giorgio Tarzia, chairman of the ChemMedChem editorial board, for his many and important contributions to the advancement of medicinal chemistry in a long, distinguished and varied career as an industrial and academic medicinal chemistry researcher. But what is medicinal chemistry, anyway? Professor Tarzia and co-chairman Professor R. Metternich gave their definition recently in the editorial of issue 8 this year.
The prize was awarded at the NMMC 2008 held in Verona (Italy), where Professor Tarzia gave an interesting award lecture entitled "Alkylcarbamic Acid Biphenyl-3-yl Esters as Selective Inhibitors of Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase: A Novel Approach to Antianxiety and Antidepressant Agents", dedicated to Professor Aurelio Romeo.
The editors and publishers congratulate Professor Tarzia on his well-deserved award, and thank him for his continued support of ChemMedChem.
