Rainer Metternich to Lead the Small Molecules Research Program at Roche

ChemMedChem Editorial Board co-chair Rainer Metternich will head the Small Molecules Research (SMR) program at Roche in Basel, Switzerland. His new position oversees around 800 researchers in the US and Europe who are involved in projects ranging from medicinal chemistry and discovery technologies to process research and formulation.

Dr. Metternich earned his PhD at Philipps University in Marburg, Germany, and carried out postdoctoral research in the chemistry department at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His expertise in pharmaceutical research spans more than two decades, having worked at Novartis, Schering AG, Merck, and most recently Caprotec in Berlin. Dr. Metternich continues his highly active role as co-chair of this journal's Editorial Board alongside Giorgio Tarzia; his experience and insight will surely be a huge benefit to Roche, as it has been and continues to be for ChemMedChem. Everyone at the Editorial Office in Weinheim wishes him all the best in his new position!
