7_09i/2012Inside Cover: Metal-Ion Permeation in Congested Nanochannels: The Exposure Effect of Ag+ Ions on the Phosphorescent Properties of a Gold(I)–Pyrazolate Complex that is Confined in the Nanoscopic Channels of Mesoporous Silica (Chem. Asian J. 9/2012)

Permeation of metal ions is one of the most important events in biological signal transmission, especially for the development of sensors. In their Full Paper on page 2068 ff., Hendrik O. Lintang et al. demonstrate the first successful example of permeation of Ag+ ions into the congested channels of a mesoporous silica nanocomposite with an interpore distance of 4.1 nm consisting of a 1D columnar assembly of a trinuclear gold(I) pyrazolate complex. Exposure of Ag+ ions to the film causes a change in the phosphorescence of the nanocomposite from red to green, owing to the permeation of Ag+ ions into the nanochannel.
