8_03i/2013Inside Cover: Synthesis, Physical Properties, and Self-Assembly of A Novel Asymmetric Aroyleneimidazophenazine (Chem. Asian J. 3/2013)

The morphology of organic components, especially their micro/nanostructures, plays a key role in the fabrication of organoelectronic devices. A team of researchers led by Qichun Zhang has successfully integrated an electron-deficient N-substituted oligoacene moiety and an imide-substituted naphthalene unit into a novel n-type heteroacene, IZ1 (see the Inside Cover). In their Full Paper on page 665 ff., they show that IZ1 can self-assemble into nanowires that can be used as an active layer to fabricate organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices. The use of organic nanowires as the n-type electron injection layer could possibly provide an effective low-cost alternative to devices with inorganic thin-film structures.
