  1. Pentannulation of Heterocycles by Virtue of Precious Metal Catalysis

Martina Petrović and Prof. Dr. Ernesto G. Occhiato

Article first published online: 30 NOV 2015 | DOI: 10.1002/asia.201501127

Give me penta! Recent developments in the precious metal-catalyzed synthesis of pentannulated heterocycles are summarized based on different metal catalysts (Pd, Au, Pt, Rh, and Ru). Cascade sequences often initiated by electrophilic activation of multiple bonds and, to a lesser extent, “redox” catalytic cycles allow for the construction of complex structures, embedding cyclopenta-fused heterocycles found in many natural products.

  2. A Versatile Anisometric Metallic Supercrystal with Controllable Orientation on a Chip as a Stable and Reliable Label-Free Biosensor

Li Qiu, Wei Qiang Wang, Dr. Nan Nan Zhang, Hao Wei Jia, Prof. Dr. Jin Wang and Prof. Dr. Hong Hua Ge

Article first published online: 30 NOV 2015 | DOI: 10.1002/asia.201500974

Growth directions: Anisometric 3D supercrystals with controllable orientation on a silicon chip can be fabricated and utilized as a stable and reliable sensor for discriminating between Gram-negative and -positive bacteria (see figure).

  3. Synthesis of (±)-Lasubine II Using N-Methoxyamines

Takashi Yokoyama, Yutaro Fukami, Dr. Takaaki Sato and Prof. Dr. Noritaka Chida

Article first published online: 30 NOV 2015 | DOI: 10.1002/asia.201501143

The synthesis of (±)-lasubine II has been achieved through a three-component allylation of an N-methoxyamine with an aldehyde and allyltributylstannane in the presence of Lewis acid. The resulting functionalized N-methoxyamine was used for nitrone formation or single-step cyclization to form a piperidine.
