Liang Qiao and Xiaofeng Bi (pp. 2511–2516) demonstrate that by choosing appropriate thicknesses for LaNiO3 (LNO) and BaTiO3 (BTO) layers, a compressive strain state with out-of-plane polarization can be induced by a thick LNO layer in the adjacent ferroelectric BTO layer even on the tensile Si substrate. The compressive BTO exhibits a decreased phase transition temperature and an increased remnant polarization. The cover figure shows the relaxor behavior of the BTO film and the a/c/a/c domain configuration.
