human_ontogenetics is an international interdisciplinary open access journal edited under the auspices of the Society of Human Ontogenetics and published by Wiley-VCH Verlag, Weinheim.

The science of human ontogenetics deals with the development of the human individual as a biopsychosocial unit from conception until death. It aims - as critical theory, conceptual framework and research program - at a holistic comprehension of man in his structural and temporal dimensions.

human_ontogenetics is a forum for original disciplinary research, interdisciplinary studies, conceptual work and metadisciplinary syntheses focusing on the ontogeny of human beings and its evolution. The journal covers developmental and evolutionary aspects of all human sciences - the scope ranges from empirical biomedical studies to philosophical concepts.

human_ontogenetics welcomes contributions from the fields of medicine, psychology, endocrinology, genetics, epigenetics & epigenomics, neurosciences, behavioral sciences, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, environmental sciences, pediatrics & perinatology, nursing and health care sciences, gerontology, sexology, sport sciences, sociology, education, anthropology, cultural studies, history and philosophy of science, philosophy, and linguistics.

human_ontogenetics explicitly includes and welcomes all kind of studies (i.e. epidemiological investigations, empirical sociological studies, behavioral studies, animal models etc.) on the developmental origins of health and disease. A special focus will be on longitudinal analyses of humans, methodological and meta-studies are particularly welcome.

human_ontogenetics publishes original research papers, reviews, essays, viewpoints, comments and letters to the editors. All manuscripts (with the exception of invited essays) will be subjected to a thorough peer-review.

human_ontogenetics offers optional a double-blind peer-review process for all authors. Immediately after acceptance and proof-reading, the article will be available online. Proposals for reviews, conceptual and synthesis papers to the editors are welcome.
