Driving the wheel! This cover picture shows the schematic framework of mesoporous silica foam (MCF) that is used for the immobilization of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) a cofactorregenerating enzyme. In their Full Paper on p 931 ff., M. Fröba et al. focused on the functionalization of the MCF to tailor this support according to the needs of G6PDH. The 3-dimensional connected spherical pores appeared an ideal host for the enzyme in terms of substrate diffusion and enzyme stabilization. These results prove that this biocatalyst can be used to efficiently drive the wheel of cofactor regeneration.
