About the Editor
Angelo Azzi earned his M.D. at the University of Padua, Italy in 1963, before receiving his postdoctoral training in the Department of Biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania from 1967-1969. Dr. Azzi returned to Padua where he earned a Ph.D. in Pathophysiology in 1969 and in Biochemistry in 1970, followed by an appointment as Associate Professor and then Full Professor.
From 1977-1984, Dr. Azzi was Professor and Head of Department, Medical Chemistry Institute at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and Professor and Director of the Institute for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from 1984-2005. In 2005 he became a Visiting Scientist and in 2006 a Senior Scientist of the HNCRA at Tufts University in Boston where he remains today. Dr. Azzi has published approximately 400 articles, has been an invited speaker at over 200 international meetings and has carried out research on mitochondria; cytochromes; membranes; transporters; protein kinase C and signal transduction; the molecular function of tocopherols and carotenoids.
Dr. Azzi has served as Editor-in-Chief of IUBMB Life, and Molecular Aspects of Medicine, as well as Review Editor of BioFactors. He has been President of the International Society of Vitamins and Related Biofactors; the Global Network for Cell and Molecular Biology; the European Society for Free Radical Research; the Society for Free Radical Research, Member of the Jury of the L'Oréal-UNESCO Prize "Women in Science", Member of the IUBMB Executive Committee, Chair of the IUBMB Publication Committee, and most recently, President of the IUBMB.
