Beneficial Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acid and Vitamin B12 Supplementation on Brain Docosahexaenoic Acid, Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor and Cognitive Performance in the Second Generation Wistar Rats
Richa Rathod is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Nutritional Medicine, Interactive Research School for Health Affairs, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune, India. She has received fellowship from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, India to pursue Ph.D under the guidance of Dr. Sadhana Joshi, Prof. and Head of the Department of Nutritional Medicine. Richa is keenly interested in studying the effect of maternal nutrition on mental health and cognitive function in the offspring. As part of her thesis work, she has been studying the multigenerational effects of vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on brain development in a rat model. In this study, she has assessed the cognitive performance of animals, analyzed molecular and biochemical markers from the brain tissue. Richa has published several research papers (6 as first author; 4 as co-author) in international journals. She has also presented her work in a number of International and National conferences and has been awarded the "Best Presentation Award" at one of the international conference held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She is a member of Nutrition Society of India and Indian Academy of Neurosciences.
