In the March 2015 issue, Das and Mhaskar considered the problem of control of nonlinear systems subject to uncertainty using a Lyapunov-based robust model predictive control (MPC) design integrated with a moving horizon based offset free mechanism to enable improved performance while preserving closed-loop stability properties. Simulation results illustrate the disturbance rejection and noise handling properties of the proposed framework.
We congratulate Ali Shekari for his award winning paper onTransient kinetics of n-butane partial oxidation at elevated pressure.Dr. Ali Shekari is an expert in the area of catalysis, kinetic modelling and chemical reaction engineering. More recently, he has been involved in industrial research on the development of thermal processes for waste destruction and energy recovery technologies.Dr. Ali Shekari is an expert in the area of catalysis, kinetic modelling and chemical reaction engineering. More recently, he has been involved in industrial research on the development of thermal processes for waste destruction and energy recovery technologies.
Dr. Shekari obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in 1999 and Master’s Degree in 2002 from the prestigious University of Tehran in Iran. During his Master’s studies and afterwards (1999-2005), Dr. Shekari served as a process and research engineer on the development of specialty surfactants for the petrochemical industry and on high purity separation technologies.
Dr. Shekari received his Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 2011. At Polytechnique, Dr. Shekari collaborated on industrial projects such as development of DuPont’s Circulating Fluidized Bed Reactor (CFBR) technology for production of maleic anhydride from n-butane and Arkema’s acrylic acid process. His Master’s research was on development of oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) for ethylene production. During his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Shekari attended Haldor Topsøe A/S in Denmark (2007-2008) as a research invitee where he contributed to the development of economic scenarios for CO2 capture in IGCC hydrogen production plants and catalytic shift processes for syngas conversion.
Following the completion of his doctoral studies in 2011, Dr. Shekari served as R&D/Process Director and Plant Manager in an industrial pyrolysis plant where he contributed to development of thermal decomposition technologies and energy recovery solutions. Dr. Shekari currently occupies the role of Process Development Engineer with PyroGenesis Canada Inc., a company specialized in advanced plasma processes and systems, including technologies in the waste destruction and resource recovery field. Dr. Shekari is a member of the “Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)”.
