Issue Highlights and more...
The August 2015 issue highlights the article by Vikhansky and Splawski. They developed an adaptive discretization algorithm for population balances that can be combined with multiphase CFD codes. The authors show how their approach is useful to model multiphase multidisperse flow processes.

Facile One Step-Synthesis and Characterisation of High Aspect Ratio Core-Shell Copper-Polyaniline Nanowires
Can. J. Chem. Eng. Volume 92, Issue 7
We congratulate Ali Sarvi for his award winning paper Facile one step-synthesis and characterisation of high aspect ratio core-shell copper-polyaniline nanowires.
Dr. Ali Sarvi is a polymer engineer and researcher in the area of synthesis of nanoparticles and their polymer composites. This includes synthesis and modification of conductive nanofillers, and tuning the properties of composites by optimizing filler network structure.
Dr. Sarvi received his Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Polymer Engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) in Iran in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Then, he studied the effects of crystal nucleation on rheological behavior of semi-crystalline polymer melts filled with nanoparticles. Later, he pursued studies at the University of Calgary in Canada where he earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering. His PhD thesis under the supervision of Professor Uttandaraman Sundararaj was focused on the synthesis and characterization of conductive nanoparticles (i.e. metal nanowires) and nanofibers. Tailoring the filler network structure in polymer composites at nanoscale was performed in order to improve polymer composite properties. The goal was to achieve the favourite electrical properties at the lowest possible nanofiller loadings.
Dr. Sarvi completed his PhD in 2014, and presently has a role of Chemical Production Specialist at ROSEN Canada, where he works on developing and manufacturing engineering plastics for applications in severe environmens, like oil sand mining fields.
