Actin and Regulatory Proteins Virtual Issue

The actin cytoskeleton has a fundamental role in numerous cellular processes from cell migration and morphogenesis to vesicle trafficking and cell division. Consequently, the actin cytoskeleton is also a key player in many developmental and physiological processes in multicellular organisms, and abnormalities in the regulation of actin dynamics are typical for many pathological states such as in cancer and during infection processes of several pathogenic bacteria and viruses.

During the past three years, many important articles concerning biochemistry and biology of actin and actin-associated proteins have been published in Cytoskeleton. These publications have provided important new insights into the structure and dynamics of monomeric and filamentous actin, role of actin isoforms in multicellular organisms, and regulation of the organization and dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton by various actin-binding proteins.
