Facts and Numbers: Virtual Issue
ESC Heart Failure publishes a series of short articles looking into some of the facts and numbers behind different aspects of heart failure. This virtual issue collects all of the Facts and Numbers papers together in one place and will be updated regularly as new articles are published.
In recognition of the HFA's Heart Failure Awareness Days, ESC Heart Failure and it's sister journal, European Journal of Heart Failure, have joined forces to create a special virtual issue. Enjoy open access articles specially selected by ESC Heart Failure Editor-in-Chief, Stefan Anker, as well as FREE content from European Journal of Heart Failure, chosen by Editor-in-Chief Marco Metra.

ESC Heart Failure is the open access journal of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in the field of heart failure. The journal aims to improve the understanding, prevention, investigation and treatment of heart failure.
ESC Heart Failure welcomes submission of manuscripts on basic, translational, clinical and population sciences, as well as original contributions on nursing, care of the elderly, primary care, health economics and other specialist fields related to heart failure. The journal also invites case reports that highlight interesting aspects of heart failure care and treatment.

MEET THE EDITORS
Dr Stefan Anker obtained his MD from Charité Medical School in Berlin and completed his PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute of Imperial College London. Dr Anker is Professor of Innovative Clinical Trials at Universitätsmedizin Göttingen. Dr Anker has served on the board of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology since 2006, and was President of the HFA from 2012 to 2014. He is also the Founding President of the International Society on Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders. His particular research interests include the pathophysiology of heart failure, the pathophysiology of cachexia and sarcopenia in chronic heart failure, stroke, cancer and the elderly, and treatment development in heart failure, cancer cachexia and sarcopenia.
Dr Stephan von Haehling, MD, PhD, DIC, FESC is a consultant cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Department of Cardiology and Pneumology at the University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany. He obtained his MD at the Institute of Immunology at Charité Medical School, Berlin, Germany. His PhD was awarded by Imperial College, London, UK after he completed studies into inflammatory mechanisms of heart failure at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London. Dr. von Haehling has authored more than 250 original research papers, review articles, and editorials. His research interests include the pathophysiology of heart failure, muscle wasting, sarcopenia, biomarkers, cardio-oncology, and novel treatments.
Dr Zoltán Papp graduated from the University Medical School of Debrecen, Hungary in 1989 and completed his PhD at the University of Debrecen in 1995. He is currently Professor of Clinical Physiology at the University of Debrecen.

European Journal of Heart Failure (EJHF) works together with ESC Heart Failure to enable rapid publication of good quality research that is unable to be accepted for publication by EJHF. Authors may be offered the option of having their paper, along with any related peer reviews, automatically transferred for consideration by the Editors of ESC Heart Failure.
