77_04/2012Cover Picture: Probing Wavelength Regulation with an Engineered Rhodopsin Mimic and a C15-Retinal Analogue (ChemPlusChem 4/2012)

The cover picture shows a short, C15-retinal analogue bound as an iminium to a lysine side chain from the crystal structure of reengineered CRABPII. The ‘caged’ chromophore represents an embedded and solvent-shielded C15-retinal analogue inside the protein cavity. The background stresses the human eye's ability to perceive a wide range of colors. This ability is in part mimicked in the designed protein system described in the Communication on page 273 ff. by J. H. Geiger, B. Borhan, and co-workers.
