“Aluminating” Results in Hydrogen Production: Hydrogen production from the hydrolysis of an Al/Al2O3 composite is described in the Full Paper on page 751 by Zhi Chen and Y. Huang with colleagues at China Jiliang University. The factors influencing the hydrolysis reactivity of aluminum are identified. A gel-coating processing method was used to prepare the Al/Al2O3-composite precursor powder. The reactivity and stability of the hydrolysis reaction on the heat-treated sample and Al/Al2O3 composite were investigated. The results indicate that the heat treatment is the predominant factor for the enhancement of reactivity whereas the addition of γ-Al2O3 decreases the hydrolysis reactivity, which is in contrast to previous reports. However, the addition of γ-Al2O3 has been shown to increase the stability of Al/Al2O3 in air.
