Earth’s Future Aims to Break Barriers to Interdisciplinary Science

AGU’s transdisciplinary journal, Earth’s Future, explores topics that intersect science, policy, society, and sustainability. The journal was launched in late 2013. With the goal of better understanding the Earth as an evolving system and human interaction with our planet, this open-access journal strives to be not only a new forum for scientists but also a place where policy makers, industry leaders, and the public can go for information to help them make decisions that affect us all.

Eos spoke with editor in chief Ben van der Pluijm (University of Michigan) and his fellow editors, Guy Brasseur (Climate Service Center, in Germany), who is also the journal’s founding editor; Michael Ellis (British Geological Survey); Nancy Grimm (Arizona State University); and Richard Norgaard (University of California, Berkeley), about their plans for Earth’s Future.
