Greeting from the President of JSGS

On behalf of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery (JSGS), it is my great honor to announce a new, international, peer-reviewed journal named Annals of Gastroenterological Surgery (AGS). The journal itself will officially be launched on April 2017.While JSGS will undertake its publication, an international Editorial Board will be responsible for all editorial decisions.

JSGS was established in 1968 and has become one of the largest medical society in Japan. Number of members of JSGS is over 20,000. JSGS’s objectives are to promote advances in gastroenterological surgery and encourage more physicians to provide care in our field, thereby helping to foster academic achievements in medical care and the well-being and medical treatment, while also encouraging advances in the research and training of healthcare employees and society members so that they can improve the medical care they provide. JSGS has a strong pride to be one of the leading societies in the world, therefore, official English journal has been thought to be essential for a long time.

Aims and scope of AGS

Annals of Gastroenterological Surgery (AGS) will be an international, peer-reviewed, academic journal for surgery, oncology, gastroenterology and hepatology. It covers a wide range of clinical areas, alimentary tract from esophagus to anal, hepatobiliary-pancreas and general fields i.e., acute illness and herniation, etc.

As an academic journal, the key concept of AGS will be diversity of study aimed at identifying gastroenterological diseases. This diversity will encompass a wide range of academic activities, including basic and experimental studies as well as clinical studies involving significant and new treatment strategy. All these activities need to be integrated in order to provide better care and patients’ benefit.
The AGS will allow the valuable information that this endeavor provides to be shared among medical personnel throughout the world.

AGS seriously seeks to share academic achievements among all physicians as well as general surgeons worldwide involved in the study of gastroenterological fields. AGS will carry editorials, review articles, original papers, and letters to the editor related to published issues and/or matters that may be of particular benefit or interest to the greater readership.
