Children's experiences of dental anxiety
One of the reasons many of us have become paediatric dentists is to help children who are anxious about receiving treatment, because we felt we had the attitudes and skills to help them overcome their fears. It is well documented that children with dental anxiety have more disease and poorer outcomes. I have chosen this article as the Editor's Choice because this novel study examines dental anxiety through children's own experiences. This is a qualitative study that bases its research question on a recognised theoretical model. The insights the children give on what they think of us and the way we approach their care I think make very interesting reading and will make us all reflect on our practice. We all know that children are different and have different information needs, but I wonder whether we always remember this. I found the sections on ‘negative social judgements’ and ‘before and during dental visits’ particularly interesting.
Editor in Chief Role - Call for Applications
Professor Christopher Deery, the current Editor-in-Chief is stepping down at the end of 2017. A search committee representing the three owners of the Journal (Wiley-Blackwell, the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry and the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry) are looking for a successor.
We are seeking a new Editor-in-Chief for International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry (IJPD) who will be officially responsible for the Journal from January 2018 through 2022. A new editorial team should be functional by 1st January by which time it will start to receive and review submitted manuscripts.
