Already, this technology is being altered by the addition of a series of impedance measurements along the catheter to provide a simultaneous assessment of function in addition to the pressure curves described above. Will high resolution impedance manometry be a better tool? Again, time and experience will answer this and many other questions. For those of us that are senior esophagologists, we might remain primarily satisfied with older, better established technology but, hopefully we will not become dinosaurs and fail to recognize true advances as they occur.
