The Foundation promotes the nutritional wellbeing of society through the impartial interpretation and effective dissemination of scientifically based nutritional knowledge and advice. It works in partnership with academic and research institutes, the food industry, educators and government. The Foundation influences all in the food chain, government, the professions and the media. The Foundation is a charitable organisation which raises funds from the food industry, government and a variety of other sources.
The scientific reputation of the Foundation is derived from its many contacts with top nutrition scientists and from its in-house nutritionists, chosen for their scientific qualifications and skills in undertaking the many and varied activities of the Foundation. Distinguished academics comprise the Foundation's various scientific committees, and advise on the scientific quality of its work. Other involvement with academics includes: participation in its Task Forces, which are independent expert committees set up to examine specific nutritional issues; presentations given at BNF conferences; articles written for the Nutrition Bulletin and scientific reviewing of BNF briefing papers.
