Africa Research Bulletin is the leading bulletin service on Africa, appearing in two series - Political, Social and Cultural, and Economic, Financial and Technical - available separately or in a combined subscription. 

The coverage of the Economic, Financial and Technical series includes: Continental Developments, Policy and Practice, Communications and Transport, Commodities, Industries and Economic Aid, with countries and regional entities listed alphabetically within each of these main sections.  All sources are acknowledged and each issue is comprehensively indexed.

Fact and comment are drawn from a large range of local press, radio and on-line sources. These are complemented with information from international organizations, the world press, news agencies and the World Wide Web. ARB provides a balance of comment and opinion from local and international sources which monitor future trends and developments.

Aims and Scope


Africa Research Bulletin has been a leading research service on Africa since 1964, providing impartial summaries of, and extensive reports on, political and economic developments throughout the continent.  Drawing on hundreds of reports from local press, websites and radio, as well as international organizations and news agencies, the Bulletin gives a uniquely comprehensive picture, with comment and analysis drawn from Africa and around the world.  All sources are acknowledged and each issue is fully indexed. Cross references guide readers to related articles in previous issues of the Bulletin.

Used together the accumulated knowledge of the Political and Economic Bulletins give readers an in-depth understanding of Africa.

The Economic Bulletin opens with a lead article and is then divided into six sections, with countries and regional entities listed alphabetically within each.

Continental Developments: Regional and international conferences, foreign co-operation and trade agreements, trade figures and foreign direct investment.

Policy and Practice: Changes in economic policies and development plans are backed up by key indicators.  Country and regional economic reviews with maps and tables.  Financial markets, debt tables, budgets, stock markets, IMF assessments and loans.  Investor ratings. 

Communications and Transport: New infrastructural links or facilities, company progress and air, sea, road, rail and telecommunications projects including regional and IT projects.

Commodities: Monthly updated market review. Production figures and developments of major commodities, agricultural and mineral. Tables of African production.

Industries: General manufacturing and the development of specific industries, projects and trends. Company briefs, which highlight new investment in a country.

Economic Aid: Extensive details of all new aid: origin of aid, type of agreement, amount and project.
