The Asian Association of Social Psychology (AASP) was launched with the Inaugural Conference of the Asian Association of Social Psychology in Hong Kong, 21-23 June 1995. The Association was formed to advance the following three goals: (i) to promote the development of social psychological research and its application in the Asia-Pacific region; (ii) to provide opportunities for students to pursue education and careers in social psychology; and (iii) to provide a forum for social psychologists in the Asia-Pacific region, in order to promote research and education in social psychology.
The Japanese Group Dynamics Association (JGDA) was established in 1950. JGDA is one of the oldest of 30 psychology-related associations in Japan. The current membership is 800. JGDA has published a journal named The Japanese Journal of Experimental Psychology in the Japanese language twice a year since 1960. An English issue was also published as the third annual issue from 1989 to 1995. From 1996, the English portion was replaced by the Asian Journal of Social Psychology (AJSP), jointly published by the Asian association of Social Psychology and JGDA with Wiley-Blackwell Ltd.
