Citizen and Stakeholder Engagement

Engagement with citizens and stakeholders first emerged in the pages of the AJPA in the late 1970s with Graycar’s article on the relevance of community involvement. As the focus on engagement has grown in the decades since, we have seen major contributions on this topic – the purpose, the benefits, and also the challenges on both sides of such relationships. As governments continue to push the engagement agenda, public managers will have to continue to seek out appropriate ways in which to carry this out. This collection of papers provides sage advice for practitioners and also points to the major contributions that scholars have played in this field.
