Author Guidelines

Manuscript Submission

1. Journal Remit
Preference will be given to papers which advance the state of the art in research, development, design and innovation management. They should address current or anticipated problems and issues, and implications for managers, R&D teams and organizations. The application of new methods and concepts is especially relevant. Research papers and high quality practitioner perspective papers are published.

2. Abstract
A paper must be preceded by an abstract, which will clearly reveal the purpose, value and impact of the paper. The abstract should be optimized for search engines. It should state briefly why the work reported was done, how it was carried out, what are the most important conclusions and what are their implications for R&D management.

3. Title Page and Author Biographies
A title page should accompany all submissions. The title page should contain full contact information for the corresponding author and author biographies for all authors. Please look at recent issues of the journal for examples of author biographies. For the purposes of double-blind peer review please ensure that the title page is submitted as a separate file to your paper.

4. Peer Review
A paper is submitted to referees upon receipt. The editors will do all they can to expedite the reviewing process and ensure that their decision is reached with the minimum of delay. However, submission of a paper to the journal is taken to imply that:

(a) the paper has not been previously published in the open literature.
(b) it is not currently being considered by other journals for publication, nor within three months of submission to this journal will it be submitted to other journals, and only then with prior notice to the journal editors.

R&D Management operates double-blind peer review. Please ensure that your paper is anonymised for review and that your title page is uploaded separately.

5. Preparing Your Paper
Papers should be prepared using MS Word with double line spacing and wide margins. They should not normally exceed 5,000 words and specialist terminology and endnotes should be avoided. Mathematical analysis and statistical data should be placed in appendices wherever possible. The priorities of headings and subheadings should be clearly indicated. Paragraphs may be numbered, using decimal points to indicate the hierarchy. If the numbers are not to be reproduced in print they should be enclosed in square brackets.

6. References
Books and articles should be referred to in the text by the author's name(s) and date of publication, e.g. Baker & Pound (1964). Full references should be included at the end of the paper in alphabetical order using the following convention:

Baker, N. R. and Pound, W. H. (1964) R&D project selection: where we stand. I. E. E. E. Transactions on Engineering Management, EM-11, 124-134.
Price, D. J. (1963) Little Science, Big Science. New York and London: Columbia University Press.

7. Ethics
The contribution of the author(s) should be a completely original one, it should in no way violate any existing copyright, and it should contain nothing of a libellous or scandalous character. For further information and detailed ethics guidelines see here.

8. Submitting Your Article
• To submit to R&D Management Go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rndm. ScholarOne Manuscripts is our online submission and editorial interface.
• Click on ‘Create Account’ in the top right-hand corner.
• Once you have registered the new account, go into the author center and click the ‘Click Here to Submit a New Manuscript’ button to get started.

• Please note that the main document should not reveal the identity of the authors. Please upload a separate file containing full contact information for the corresponding author and author biographies for all authors.

9. Supporting Information
We can also publish supporting information. Supporting information must be important, ancillary information that is relevant to the parent article but which does not or cannot appear in the main article. Supporting Information can comprise additional tables, data sets, figures, movie files, audio clips, 3D structures, and other related nonessential multimedia files. This should be submitted during manuscript submission and designated as 'Supporting Information'. Supporting information will be published as submitted, and will not be corrected or checked for scientific content, typographical errors or functionality. Like the manuscript accompanying it, it should be original and not previously published. If previously published it must be submitted with the necessary permissions.

1. Copyright
If your paper is accepted, the author identified as the formal corresponding author for the paper will receive an email prompting them to login into Author Services; where via the Wiley Author Licensing Service (WALS) they will be able to complete the license agreement on behalf of all authors on the paper.

For authors signing the copyright transfer agreement
If the OnlineOpen option is not selected the corresponding author will be presented with the copyright transfer agreement (CTA) to sign. The terms and conditions of the CTA can be previewed in the samples associated with the Copyright FAQs below:

2. Proofs
The corresponding author will receive an email alert containing a link to a web site. A working e-mail address must therefore be provided for the corresponding author. The proof can be downloaded as a PDF file from this site. This will enable the file to be opened, read on screen and printed out in order for any corrections to be added. Further instructions will be sent with the proof. Hard copy proofs will be posted if no e-mail address is available. Excessive changes made by the author in the proofs, excluding typesetting errors, will be charged separately.

3. Production Tracking
Online production tracking is now available for your article through Wiley-Blackwell’s Author Services. Author Services enables authors to track their article – once it has been accepted – through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production. The author will receive an e-mail with a unique link that enables them to register and have their article automatically added to the system. Please ensure that a complete e-mail address is provided when submitting the manuscript.
