As a central theme in social science research in the field of work and organisation, the study of gender has achieved contemporary significance beyond the confines of early discussions of women at work. Launched by Blackwell Publishing in 1994, Gender, Work and Organization was the first journal to provide an arena dedicated to debate and analysis of gender relations, the organisation of gender and the gendering of organisations. The journal has full ISI listing and is edited jointly by Deborah Kerfoot and David Knights.

Biennial international interdisciplinary conference
Membership provides discounted rates at GWO conferences. The Gender, Work and Organization conference provides an international forum for intellectual and scholarly debate and analysis of a variety of issues in relation to management, work and organisation, and to gender studies. The 2007 conference at Keele University welcomed over 300 international scholars from 37 nations. From papers presented at the conference, special editions of Gender, Work and Organization were prepared on topics including: Service Work and Gender, Work/Life Balance, Women and Men in Management, and Gender and Emotion. It is anticipated that further special editions of the journal will be published from papers presented at the 2007 and future events.
