Century Citation Club


A century is justly a cause for celebration – whether it is a ripe old age, runs in the grand British game of cricket or citations for those truly exceptional research papers. So, on 3 May 2011, following an Editorial in J Physiol589(9), we launched the Century Citation Club: a celebration of high-impact papers published in The Journal of Physiology.

The Century Citation Club comprises research papers which attract over 100 citations within ten years of publication. This is an achievement that we certainly think is worth recognition and celebration: everyone knows that papers are more often cited for being right than for being wrong or boring (or both).

One hundred citations represents a citation rate roughly twice the average and then maintained for a decade; these papers are exceptional, they have made their mark and changed their fields.
