The Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) was founded in 1964 and is now the principal association in the United Kingdom for those interested in the study of Latin American affairs. Its current membership numbers over 400, and includes academics, diplomats, journalists, and research analysts from business and non-governmental organisations.
The Society organises an annual conference in March/April and sponsors other conferences and seminars. Members of SLAS receive a newsletter twice a year and a free copy of the Bulletin of Latin American Research which is published four times a year.
SLAS Members can also become full members of NALACS (Netherlands Association of Latin American and Caribbean Studies).
