The role of education and skills in driving social mobility

In June we published a special issue on the role of education and skills in driving social mobility. This issue brought together five articles analysing the importance of education and skills in determining the life prospects of children from different backgrounds. The publication of this issue was accompanied by a launch event, held at IFS on 29th June and attended by 60 delegates. The workshop gave an overview of all five papers, with more detailed presentations on the research by John Jerrim and Haroon Chowdry, Lorraine Dearden, Alissa Goodman and Wenchao Jin.

Video links to these presentations, plus an introduction by Fiscal Studies managing editor, Claire Crawford, and video abstracts recorded by Jake Anders, John Jerrim and Wenchao Jin, are now available on the IFS website. The research covered in this issue was also widely reported by a range of media outlets, including the Telegraph, the Guardian and the Times Higher Education Supplement, generating significant publicity for Fiscal Studies.
