The Southwestern Social Science Association (S.S.S.A.) is the oldest regional social science association in the United States, founded in 1919. The organization is composed of professionals and students in the social sciences, including academics and practitioners.
The purpose of the Association is to promote, cultivate and integrate the various areas of the social sciences and their applications through the encouragement of research, publications, presentations, annual meetings, and dissemination of information and opinion. To this end, the Association consists of eight social science affiliates. The Association has two primary functions: (1) the annual meeting, held during March or early April each year, and (2) the publication of the Social Science Quarterly.
