Wamboldt.jpgThis paper presents the history of efforts to have standardized definitions of relationship problems, the improved definitions of Relational Processes that were accepted into the DSM-5, and the proposed state-of-the-art definitions of Relational Processes that are being field tested for ICD-11. While diagnosis of relational processes is a controversial topic, this paper argues for the need to advance our field by providing standardized descriptions.

Dr. Marianne Wamboldt is the Vollbracht Family Chair of Stress and Anxiety Disorders, and a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She also serves as the President of Family Process Institute.
