Democracy in Latin America,

Published: 30 Sep 2009

Introduction: Given the wide variety of political conflicts that have appeared in Latin America in recent years, it is essential to keep scholarly attention on analyses of Latin American democracy. The Latin Americanist has published numerous articles on the topic, from different perspectives and focusing on diverse countries and themes. This virtual issue highlights recent examples, with articles on presidentialism, citizenship, local and national elections, voter turnout, and the role of legislators in democracy. Taken together, they offer different lenses through which we can better understand democratization in the region, and provide sign posts for future research.
