Food for Thought Virtual Issue
The topic of diet and mood disorders evokes bipolar responses – with individuals either viewing the field as flaky and devoid of data or believing in dietary nuances passionately. Much of the literature is lacking in scientific rigor and it becomes difficult to separate the ‘wheat from the chaff’. In this ‘Food for Thought’ series, we seek to establish the scientific basis for any ‘good mood food’ stuffs. For each of the three topics so-far addressed – omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin D and amino acids – there are some supportive (but little definitive) data. In essence, this series is best viewed as an appetizer.
