New Editor-in-Chief for 2015

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Murray Thomson as Editor-in-Chief of Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, effective 1 January 2015. Dr. Thomson succeeds Dr. A. John Spencer, who led the recruitment and selection effort.

John Spencer has had a long association with Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. He was an Associate Editor from 1994-2007 serving with Ole Fejerskov and Brian Burt. He was appointed Editor-in-Chief in 2008. John was the Professor of Social and Preventive Dentistry at The University of Adelaide and the Founding Director of the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH). John was conferred the title Emeritus Professor at The University of Adelaide in 2011. In late 2013, he announced he would relinquish the Editorship of Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology and began leading the rigorous transition effort to select and train his successor.

Murray Thomson is an experienced dental epidemiological and health services researcher who holds a personal chair at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was the Editor of the New Zealand Dental Journal from July 2007 to June 2014, and is currently an Associate Editor for both the European Journal of Oral Sciences and Gerodontology. To date, he has published 248 research papers and five book chapters in the scientific literature. Thomson has been honoured with two IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards (the 2010 H. Trendley Dean Memorial Award and the 2014 Geriatric Oral Research Award).
