International Association of Dental Traumatology

The International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) is a non-profit, public benefit professional organization whose mission is to promote optimal prevention, research, and treatment service in the field of traumatic dental injuries through interaction with dental and medical colleagues, the public, and interested parties in education, sports, industry and appropriate governmental agencies.

In order to fulfill the Mission of the IADT, the following objectives are adopted:

1. To promote research, both clinical and experimental, in dental traumatology.
2. To stimulate development of educational curricula to enhance competency of dental graduates in managing dental injuries.
3. To encourage incorporation of educational standards for advanced dental education programs to achieve proficiency in managing dental injuries.
4. To promote public awareness of prevention and management of traumatic dental injuries.
5. To develop and publish recommended guidelines for treatment of traumatic dental injuries based on current best evidence.
6. To assist public health agencies in developing and implementing strategies for prevention and management of dental injuries.
7. To represent the interests of dental traumatology in various dental forums.
8. To maintain an organizational structure that promotes awareness of dental traumatology

Patients with dental injuries appear unexpectedly in our practices. Trauma can have a dramatic impact on the future of their dentition and can inflict a heavy burden on the patient and/or society. Globalization has opened up the opportunity for  participation in an international multidisciplinary association that works for the dental profession and educates the public. Your membership will help promote the goals of  IADT and you will receive many  benefits from being member.

The IADT welcomes clinicians, researchers, students or other individuals interested in the field of dental traumatology to join this Association. For more information visit the web site www.iadt-dentaltrauma.org  to learn about updated evidence based clinical guidelines for treatment of traumatized teeth and information for patients in different languages. A subscription of the journal Dental Traumatology is included in the membership. International trauma congresses are sponsored by the IADT about every other year.

Academy for Sports Dentistry
The Academy for Sports Dentistry was founded in 1983 in San Antonio, Texas, as a forum for dentists, physicians, trainers, coaches, dental technicians, and educators interested in exchanging ideas related to Sports Dentistry and the dental needs of athletes at risk to sports' injuries.

Activities include the collection and dissemination of information on dental athletic injuries and the encouragement of research on the prevention of dental injuries to athletes.

The Academy boasts an international membership of over 800 members, many of whom are former athletes involved in a wide variety of research activities or with a b interest in this field of study.

One of the Academy's most important activities is hosting an annual meeting comprised of scientific sessions and a business meeting focusing on this growing healthcare concern. During the meeting a half day course on the fabrication of professionally diagnosed and designed custom made mouthguards is held. At that time each participant fabricates the different types of custom mouthguards recommended by the Academy.

The Academy's mandate is to welcome interested colleagues from all healthcare disciplines to promote the advancement of research/development and education in this field.
