The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries was established in 1960 as a permanent intergovernmental body. OPEC’s principal objectives are to co-ordinate and unify the petroleum policies of its 12 Member Countries; secure the stabilization of prices; and provide an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming nations, with a fair return on capital to those investing in the industry.
