Professor Diz Dios qualified in Medicine and is a Specialist in Stomatology at Santiago de Compostela University (Spain). He trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hospital Dentistry at the Freiburg University Hospital (Germany), gaining his PhD (Freiburg University). He is Professor in Special Needs Dentistry, Consultant, Head of the Special Needs Unit, and co-director of the Masters degree course on “Dentistry for patients with systemic diseases” at the Santiago de Compostela University (Spain). Professor Diz Dios is an Honorary Visiting Professor at the UCL-Eastman Dental Institute (London, UK), a Council member of the International Association of Disability & Oral Health (IADH) and is a member of the IADH Curriculum Working Group and an European Delegate of the Global Oral Cancer Forum. He is an Associate Editor of the journals Oral Diseases and Medicina Oral Cirugía Oral Patología Bucal (Special Needs section) and is an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Disability and Oral Health. He has lectured in 12 different countries, written over 175 papers cited on MEDLINE and co-authored and edited several books.

Professor Diz Dios, on his vision for the journal: “Among the clinicians working with people with disability and medically compromised patients, the spirit of service to the community over scientific concern prevails. It is important to convey to clinicians the need to research and publish to improve the management of their patients. The journal must become an instrument for the dissemination of knowledge that is useful for clinicians in their daily activities, without giving up the methodological rigor demanded by the basic principles of research. It is not a question of restricting the contents to specialists in SCD, but of arousing the interest of colleagues of other specialties and making useful proposals for the general dental practitioner.”
